Here is my quick solution for using the Old Facebook Layout. This workaround does not use the obsolete opt_out method.
You have to use Firefox first. Then click here to install the OldFacebook Firefox Add-on. Restart the browser and enjoy the old facebook.
There are some bugs in it, and unfortunately applications cannot use the old layout.
